Last month, I went on a 3-day trip to Naha, Okinawa with my fiancé for our anniversary. It was our long-awaited trip of the year, especially since I booked our ticket early in March. It was also our first time going to Okinawa so we were very excited about it.
I booked our ticket through Peach, which was on sale. I only paid about 32,000 yen (around $215!!) for a return ticket from Osaka to Naha for the both of us. We had already planned our itinerary so we knew where we wanted to eat and what we wanted to do on the island.
Day 1
Our first stop, which was on the top of our list, was A&W. Why? Because there are no A&W restaurants anywhere else in Japan other than Okinawa! Plus, we love root beer. ;)
There was an A&W in Naha airport, but the lines were long and the restaurant was crowded so we went to the one in Kokusai Dori. Tip: The menu at A&W Naha airport is limited so go to another branch if you want more options!
I got the Melty Double burger with curly fries and root beer. The burger was really good and the fries were amazing! The root beer also came with free refills!
Since we were already in Kokusai Dori (International Street), we walked around the area for a bit before checking in to our hotel. There are many restaurants and shops in Kokusai Dori so this place is a must-visit when you go to Naha!
At night, we walked around Kokusai Dori again to look for a place to eat. We knew we wanted to eat Okinawan soba, so we stopped by Doraemon. We had already learned about the restaurant before when we were looking up places we could it at in Naha. And we weren't disappointed!
The meat was soft and the broth was not too strong. The noodles were also similar to udon noodles which I liked. We ordered their local beer Orion as well to complete the experience.
Kokusai Dori looked different and better at night so we decided to just spend the remainder of the night strolling around the area.
Okinawa is famous for its goya (bitter melon) vegetable so I thought I had to try this goya juice with citrus. And I did not like it. LOL Blue Seal (a famous Okinawan ice cream chain) was also everywhere so we had to try it as well. It was the bomb!
Afterwards, we headed back to our hotel and had a few drinks at the rooftop bar. I got hungry around past 10 so we went to the convenience store to buy some snacks. Of course, I had to get this Okinawa-limited musubi. ;)
Our first day was mostly just going around Kokusai Dori and eating local food which is also what we came for. We went snorkeling the following day and it was the highlight of our trip but I will talk about it in another post.
Cheers,
Dyan
