Onigiri Gorichan: Must-try Onigiri (Japanese Rice Balls) Restaurant in Osaka!

When I first heard about Onigiri Gorichan, I knew instantly that I had to go. Because, who doesn't love onigiri?

Onigiri Gorichan is located at Kita ward in Osaka City, and it's only a 3-minute walk from Nakazakicho station (Tanimachi Line). Click here for the address.

I knew that the restaurant was popular, so me and my boyfriend decided to go before the restaurant opened to avoid long queues. We did end up waiting in line for about 30 minutes. We went in January and it was freezing, but the staff were kind enough to give out some hot tea while everyone waited outside. They also had menus (with English translation) outside so you can look at them beforehand. The prices are reasonable too!

The restaurant is very small and narrow and only had one long counter table, with the staff standing on the other side of the counter.

The rice balls are freshly made when you order. We got too excited and ended up ordering five rice balls for the two of us, which was too much LOL. The portions are relatively big and the miso soup was refillable too. You can also make your own Ochazuke (basically just by pouring green tea or dashi over your leftover onigiri).

Anyway, these are what we ordered:

I had the pickled egg yolk in soy sauce with minced meat (this is one of their best 10 toppings) and salmon onigiri.

My boyfriend also ordered the pickled egg yolk in soy sauce with minced meat plus a shrimp mayonnaise onigiri (I took a bite and it was my personal favorite!).

We also shared one grilled miso and cheese onigiri.

I highly recommend that you visit this onigiri restaurant when you're in Osaka because it's definitely worth it!
