What I ate at Kobe's Chinatown (Nankinmachi)

Updated: Apr 7

I've been wanting to go to Kobe's Chinatown ever since I moved here in Osaka, and I was finally able to go there today!

Here are some of what me and my boyfriend ate and I definitely recommend them too when you go for a visit.

Nikuman (Steamed Pork Buns) from Shih Koh Roh

Shih Koh Roh isn't in the Chinatown area but it's the first restaurant we saw when we got out of Motomachi Station. I'm so glad we tried their steamed pork bun because it was good! The bun was fluffy and the meat inside was juicy and tasty too. We were lucky because there wasn't any line at all when we got there and people started lining up just after we bought our pork buns.

Once we got to the Chinatown area, there were many food stalls and restaurants. We walked around and noticed that most stalls were selling the same thing. We just went with the stalls with the shortest lines.

These are what we ate:

Goma Dango (Sesame Balls filled with red bean paste) and Peking Duck wrap

Goma Dango has always been my childhood favorite and so I definitely had to eat it. The peking duck wrap was really good! It had a slice of roasted duck, cucumbers, scallions and some kind of sweet sauce which made it even tastier. For me, this is a must-try!

Kakuni Manju (Pork Belly Bun)

The Kakuni Manju had a sweet sauce which was very tasty too. I noticed that some stalls were also selling these but with thicker slices of pork belly in them. Personally, I thought that they were too thick and I prefer the ones which I ate.

Candied Shine Muscat

Of course I had to get some candied fruit for dessert. Candied apples and strawberries were being sold but I've been really into Shine Muscats lately and so that's what I got. This has now become my new favorite candied fruit and you should definitely try it too!
